The End of Authorware
Adobe plans to discontinue development of
Authorware(r) software, the visual authoring tool for
creating rich-media e-learning applications
for delivery on corporate networks, CD/DVD, and the
Web. According to the Adobe website, "The e-learning
market has transitioned to Adobe Flash(r) and Adobe
Captivate(r) software over the years. Authorware is a
mature product and demand has continually declined
to where it is no longer economically viable for Adobe
to continue development." Adobe plans to continue to
sell and support the last edition, Authorware 7. As
Elliot Masie writes in the latest edition of Learning
Trends, "an era is coming to an end."
